BEND TO PACIFIC CITY

Sunday, June 15th, 2008

After a little more than a week of on snow training in Bend we packed up our gear and headed to the coast for the remaining 4 days of our camp. This is something that we started last year and judging on how awesome it’s been in Pacific City the past two camps I think we’ll be back. After doing some on snow intervals on tuesday we made the 3 hour drive from Bend to the coast in time to grab some dinner at the Pelican Pub in Pacific City. I was really fired up to do intervals xc skiing in the morning and be able to surf in the same day, but by the time we got to the water it was already getting dark and the waves we’re pretty small. We started the day on Wednesday with a 2 hour roller ski run combo workout. the temps were pretty cold at first but the ski along the coastal road and run out to the water was pretty rad. the past two years when we have finished out camp at the coast we all get so worked because we’re training a lot but also doing other stuff like surfing all day long.  As soon as we’re done with the morning workout a lot of people suit up to go surfing or hang on the beach before we have to meet up for our second training session of the day.On thursday we did some uphill running intervals on the Cascade head trail. We hit this place up last year and couldn’t believe how cool it was and really couldn’t believe it when we got another clear day for our run. Both guys and girls did some 5×5 min level 4 running intervals. That night we had strength on the schedule so a lot of us went over to Lincoln City. After the gym session Pat, Grover, and I busted out our boards and hit the skate park in town which was just ridiculous. Unfortunately I didn’t get any pictures but it was a lot of fun.We Finished out last day on the coast with a 3.5 hour roller skiing OD along the coast. The wind started to pick up that day which made some of the skiing tough and the surfing kind of bad, But we were able to have a good bon fire on the beach that night. Before we had to fly out on Saturday I was able to wake up early and hit the water before it got too windy and it was definitely  the most fun surf of the trip. I arrived back in Park City lat night ready to start some more hot dry land training. Here are some pictures from the last few days at the coast. 12.jpg13.jpg14.jpg15.jpg16.jpg17.jpg18.jpg19.jpg110.jpg

Sorry that it has been so long since an update. I have been taking a little break from spending too much time in front of the computer lately. I’ve spent the last two weeks at home in Vermont getting into some good training and hanging out with the old crew again. It has been a wicked nice spring so far out east and after spending so much time on the road this spring it was awesome to be back.1.jpg

I had a sweet couple weeks getting in some New England activities before heading back out to camp. Gus Kaeding, Ryan Foster, and Jess and I made it down to Fenway to see Lester pitch a no hitter which was rad. Memorial day weekend was also pretty full of VT activities. Foster had a huge party at his now house. We spent an afternoon clearing land for one of the most massive bon fires I’ve ever seen. The thing burned for like 4 days and almost caught all of Andover on fire.11.jpg  Foster yard pre party

They also recently bought an RV so we spent Sunday driving around to different parties and shoe tournaments with a big crew in the back shooting fireworks out of the windows. Luckily we made it thought the weekend without the po-po giving us any problems. newell-shoes.jpg Throwin Shoes

On Sunday I made my way from VT to bend for a 10 day on snow camp with the US team. So far the skiing was been great except for yesterday when we got hammered with wind and rain up on the mountain. There was even an inch or two of new snow that fell last night. We had a good sprint TT workout today and there were a lot of people that jumped in to make it a fun work out. Guys like Lars are in town training so we got to ski with them too. I don’t have any good pics of skiing yet but check back in a day or two and I’ll have a Bend camp update. later
