Sorry it’s been a while since my last past in Europe. Since our last world cup racing weekend in Czech Republic I have travel back to Vermont for one night just to drive to the Albany airport the next day to fly out to Park City. I didn’t even unpack my bags or anything, just crashed in my own bed for a night and then kept on rolling. It was pretty rough and it felt like I had been traveling for 3 days straight but I made it to Park City on Tuesday where I will be training for the next 2.5 weeks and preparing for the Word Champs.

Although its not home, Park City is close enough and it always feels great to get a little USA back in your blood mid season. Sometimes just taking a break for the world cup and having some time outside of Europe is enough to re-charge your batteries and fire you up for the second half of the season.  Park City is also a pretty epic place to put in a training camp because the weather is virtually perfect everyday and there are plenty of options for getting your workouts in. I skied down at Soho yesterday and it was pretty incredible, sunny and hard packed fast skiing. But up here in town the skiing has gotten a lot better in the past few years too. There is something like 40 skiable K’s right in town between White Pine, who now groom a ton of stuff daily, and also the new 20k of Round Valley public trails which we can access right from the COE training center. So things aren’t too bad.

The plan for the next two weeks will be to build in a little bit of volume and also work on some really high quality intervals to get ready for the big races coming up in the next month. I’ve been feeling great during training the last few days so I think its a good sign I’ll be able to put in some productive workouts during this training camp. Alex and I have also been playing around with some new and very different strength exercises which if nothing else are pretty fun to do even if they don’t make me ski faster. Having skiing and the COE so close is an epic combo, but for the most part we will be staying clear of town over the next 5 days since the Sundance Film festival started today and things are insane. Park City traffic has never been so bad and main street is completely shut down because of all movie star types. So for the most part locals stay clear of town during this week and spend the time skiing on the fairly empty alpine runs and xc trails. Unless you want to go in and hang out with Snoop dog…. who was in town last night courtesy of our friends at Scull Candy.
