Oslo World Championships are just one week away!! and to say that the excitement is building would be a bit of an understatement. Even here in the small town of Beitostolen all you hear about and all you see on tv is the hype promoting what will probably be the biggest event ever to hit Norway. Oslo is a beautiful city and is for sure the capital of xc skiing in the world and there are sure to be upwards to 100k people in attendance at some of the events next week.
This past week in Beitostolen has been a lot of fun getting back to some great cabin living with the boys. Simi, Tad, Skyler, and I have been getting in some hard workouts and also hammering down the treats of Norway like brown cheese and jam on some wicked good bread. It really was a successful week of racing here at the local races too. The temps have been a bit cold but the racing days made for some hard efforts against some strong fields and the US has done a great job holding our own with several top 10 finishes during the sprints and distance races. I was really wanted to get in a good 10k classic the other day, but as it turns out I’m pretty allergic to some laundry detergent I used to wash ALL my clothes. I kept on getting hives on my legs and then sure enough after having a long hard day in a race suit it caused a pretty bad break out. So being itchy and tired from not sleeping well I was able to make it through the sprint, but I spent the distance days washing and rinsing all of my clothes out. it wasn’t very much fun but since then I have been feeling a lot better and was even able to make up for it with a distance time trial yesterday.
tomorrow will be our last day here in Beito where we will be traveling to Drammen for this weekend’s world cups. This will be a huge weekend and the first time that our whole World Championship team will be together and able to show off their stuff against an international field. So I think it’s going to be another fun and very successful weekend for team USA.
Beitostolen is a pretty epic place to put in some training. the small ski town is kind of perched up on these hills with great views of snowy mountains above the tree line. lots of xc tracks too.
