Sorry for the delay in posts, I will try to catch you up on what we have been doing. Way back when we returned to school after a well deserved April break, we began to slowly transition back into the training mode. As is spring tradition, our whole school rises early for an easy morning run, Monday through Friday. The idea is to incorporate enough running so it wont be a huge shock to give you’re your best effort, all your energy and often your breakfast, in the Green Mountain Run.

In our last week of school the entire school teams up together to complete the GMR, a 211 mile school tradition that makes a relay race out of the length of Vermont. The run is a historic event in which each student has a relay leg and then tags off to the next one in line. Since support is an inherent characteristic of every Burkie, it is no surprise that each runner is accompanied by three to five, and sometimes as many as 10, other students, staff, or family members who run along side, pacing them.

After the GMR was completed there was a final push to finish classes and for Lucy and the rest of her class, graduate!  By this time we were all thoroughly involved with our own training plans and working hard (our official season started May 1). So when we returned home for summer, it was easy to transition into a steady routine of training, working, eating, sleeping, and for me, Lucas, Corinne and Janey, studying hard for the SAT’s.

Lucas has left for Bend, Or to participate in a SVSEF training camp, while Lucy, Mitch and Corinne have left on Pete’s Sweden/Norway Trip. I am staying home this summer, juggling four part time jobs and a demanding month of training. I will attend the NENSA Regional camp next week but then I will return home for the rest of the summer. We will try to keep you updated with more on our summer training, but as for right now I am the only person who knows their account password so I will speak for the whole group for a while.
