Bjornsen Crushes Men’s 15 k at U.S. Nationals

MIDWAY, Utah — Erik Bjornsen (U.S. Ski Team) showed that he has what it takes to win the first race of 2014 U.S. Cross Country Championships, topping Alaska Pacific University (APU) teammate Reese Hanneman by 11 seconds to win the 15-kilometer classic individual start at Soldier Hollow on Saturday. This marks his second national title after winning the 15 k skate in last year’s championships. Bjornsen finished 11 seconds ahead of Reese Hanneman (APU). Hanneman was followed by Kris Freeman (Maine WSC) in third.

Rorabaugh On Top in the Women’s 10 k at U.S. Nationals

MIDWAY, Utah — Rebecca Rorobaugh of Alaska Pacific University (APU) handily won the women’s 10 k classic individual start by more than 14 seconds Saturday morning at the first race of 2014 U.S. Cross Country Championships at Soldier Hollow. Rorobaugh dominated the challenging 5 k olympic course and held a fairly consistent lead throughout the race. The podium was rounded out by Caitlin Gregg (Team Gregg/Madshus) and Caitlin Patterson (Craftsbury Green Racing Project).
