Summer in the Sea to Sky

Friday, August 1st, 2008

So far the training here in the Squamish/Whistler area has been close to perfect. With many days of sun and few of rain it has made training a breeze. We still have yet to get all of the team together at one time, I think the record right now is about 6 athletes. With Leah traveling to world juniors for both mountain and road cycling (Congrats by the way!), and a few of us with prior engagements one day soon we will all be in one place! Last week we were lucky to have Kris Freeman come out and beat us up pretty good and create some real bench marks in our tests that we do to measure fitness. Right now part of the team is at the Haig glacier close to Canmore Alberta, putting in a solid volume week on snow. The rest of us are training at Whistler Olympic park and around Squamish with our new assistant coach Erik. So far Erik has been a huge asset to the team providing us with some new and fresh ideas. The month of August is pretty straight forward with some volume starting into some intensity followed by a testing week at the end of the month just before we head over to Nipika lodge for a joint camp with team 2010. From there we will return back to the sea to sky corridor to resume fall training and wait for the early season snow to arrive at the venue.
Until next time…
