The races came and went this weekend in Bozeman. It was a little disappointing that the races could not be pulled off in town, but I would say that the organizers did a great job pulling off any races at all up at Bohart. The skiing was a little thin.
The MWSC crew did the drive from Yellowstone on Saturday morning. That was good for me as I got to see my wife BethAnn race on Friday. Plus we were able to ski a few extra days in Yellowstone. 5 AM came early on the morning of the sprint, but we saddled up the van and made it to Bohart no problem. The sprint day was a long day, cold and windy. I did my usual, qualified 12th, tailing off the back of each heat before pouring it on in the final stretch to move within the top two. I did not have as much gas in the final as the other guys and had to settle for 6th place. The norwegian boys from Utah were very impressive all day long, taking one-two in the final round. The skate race was a little better for me, I ended up skiing into fourth place a few seconds from a podium spot.
Right now we are in Park City waiting for the SuperTour races this weekend at Soldier Hollow. I have to give a shout out to my friend Deb Lovci for putting up with us this week. Her house and hospitality is about the best a nordic skier could ask for. Those out there that have had the pleasure of knowing Deb know what I mean!
Up next is another classic sprint in Soldier Hollow…
