I have been hanging around home for a while now doing some training. Tomorrow I am making the drive to Carrabassett Valley to do the Sugarloaf marathon. Then it is onto Fairbanks for the second half of nationals. In the meantime I’ll post some pictures of my hometown.
A lot of skiers have been to Presque Isle, the Nordic Heritage Center was the site of distance nationals the last two years. And most folks have at least seen Fort Kent, the 10th Mountain Lodge, a few years back the site of a biathlon World Cup. In between the two is where I live now, Caribou, ME. It is a nice spot.
World-wide headquarters is on Main Street…..
There is a track under all that snow. Check out those goalposts.
The trails at the high school are about a two minute walk from my house. The grooming crew have done an excellent job this year with all the snow we have been delivered.
Local boy doing good. Joey is one of the many success stories of the Maine Winter Sports Center. Started as a Bill Koch skier when the MWSC began here, now he is one of a handful of athletes competing at the Junior Olympics this week.
The local middle school team has 57 kids on it. 57!
We have all the amenities here in Caribou.
Caribou is home to one of our state Senators. Her brother, Sam Collins, is a local nordic skiing enthusiast. He has done a lot for the sport in the area.
Main Street after dark.
And finally - my local hangout:
