Thursday, August 7th, 2008A ten day training camp at the Ethan Allen Army Base. Not your typical training camp. We are training alongside troops that are about to be deployed to Iraq and Afghanistan.
My wife has been coming to this August biathlon camp for many years now. For her it is every bit as part of her training schedule as Yellowstone is for the xc crowd. I figured I would give it a shot this year to see what it is all about, it fits into my training plan nicely. Actually the only real difference between this camp and any other is that we are staying in army barracks, packed into bunks and we get woken up each morning by the whooo-aahhh of the troops doing their drills. The training has been good, I am the middle of a phase of high volume, a nice break from my usual training loops in the county. The terrain around here is really good for training, hills, a long rollerski track, trails to run on, hiking. I will be doing a couple intensity sessions this week and some long distance sessions. The biathletes have a few days of time trials coming up, so the atmosphere is good for some quality training.
