Annursnac Hill

Tuesday, September 30th, 2008

A little history and at the end from today.

Two years ago I was also down in the greater Boston area, doing the same job for the US Army. It was just over two months after fracturing my leftAcetabulum and Ileum and was just barely off crutches had the opportunity to train with the hardcore skiers from the Cambridge Sports Union. They introduced me to Annursnac Hill Road in Concord MA. Every day I increased my training miles and intensity at the end of most workouts I felt as if I was going to rip tendons and muscles off of their respective bones, and every day I went back and repeated workouts and actually I just didn’t care if I fell apart it was an experiment and for some reason and to much surprise, I completed the next workout, and the next workout not falling apart. I would be there with Night Rider headlamp some days bothmorning and evening. I thought that someone would try to kick me off of there I would  greet the same people at 5 am good morning and at 8 pm at  good evening(in the dark)the time period was Oct to Dec Fall 2006. I believe that I hold the record for most miles in a workout staying on the road (over40).

Well anyway enough history. Today in preparation for the Whiteface Rollerski Race I did some short hill intervals. I was tired but did not premedicate with  a large cup of coffee( need to cut down). Intensity was just below race pace. I had a die hard skier AM from CSU join me I used V2 100’s he used Aero 125’s We did 6x just under 4min with similar recovery going back down. HR and effort and perceived speed were all satisfactory.
Goal was to maintain fitness not create much fatigue and ski fast with good technique.
Mission accomplished.

Pack Manadnock a Little Hill in NH

Thursday, September 25th, 2008

Last week Len Johnson OF JENEX/V2 Rollerski told me of a great hill for rollerski intervals near him. I planned on going up there on Tuesday SEP 23 and meeting Len there. I was actually planning on rollerskiing down with my AERO 150’s( that would have been a disaster) Len said he would drive me down the hill when I talked with him that am. The stickler was that at work we had 48 soldiers to do medical exams on that day, currently I am the medical officer for a Community Based Warrior Transition Unit. Well we got that all done and my Commander let me go early to go “play” in NH.

Why Jacked Up Old Man

Thursday, September 25th, 2008

This past early summer a younger friend of mine that I train with related to me that a friend of his (whom I do not know) saw this jacked up old man rollerskiing down a road a couple of days ago. I asked where and realized that in fact that the “Jacked up old man” in question was actually me!  At first I was going to call that young whippersnapper and give him a piece of my mind. Then I came to my senses and realized how crazy I actually am and also how not only do resemble a Jacked up old man, but that I was a Jacked up old man.

So I am going to share some experiences, trials, mistakes, tribulations, victories that I experience encounter along my way. These will be mostly about training and racing.
