Though I am still recovering from a little illness, I did a nice little 35 minute run and core on Thursday to get back in the swing of things. Tomorrow is really the big day…the Northern Columbia County Triathlon. Yesterday I played a fun round of golf (I shot 87 at Taconic Golf Club) with some friends from Holderness, and I’ll be resting all day today.

Link to Thursday’s run.

Here is the NCC Triathlon site.

I was very impressed by the quality of the Chinese opening ceremony yesterday. The sheer number of performers (13,000) was amazing. My favorite part was when the two thousand and eight performers were all lined up in concentric circles doing Tai Chi moves. And the lighting of the Cauldron was really sweet too…the guy was lifted in the air and did a complete circle around the whole stadium while “running in air.” How did they get the cauldron inside the stadium so quickly? It seemed to just appear. I’m the most excited to see the cycling, triathlon and distance running events, though the swimming should be amazing too.

I’m planning on taking the triathlon tomorrow pretty seriously. It’s really my first opportunity to see how well my body reacts to a mildly stressful racing situation, and my body will give me feedback as to what shape I am in for running season. I’m planning to just swim in a leisurely manner, then ride a solid-but-not-too-hard bike time, and take the run like a 5 mile road race. If all goes well, I should end up somewhere near Matt Voisin at the end. If the run doesn’t go well, he could end up burying me by like 2 minutes. This race is also an opportunity for me to see what my hard work has done over the last month and a half. The BNSCMini-Triathlon” was shorter, but I’m expecting to see some serious improvement. Stay tuned tomorrow for that.
