2008 New England Junior Olympic team

The week is over – it is always amazing how fast the week goes but how long the days feel for the wax techs and coaching staff! But its all good- the staff worked really well together and the end results of watching our skiers race hard and race well, day after day, made up for all of the hours.

Photos from Classic Mass Start

Saturday, March 15th, 2008

It was a spectacular day of racing at Kincaid Park. Hard tracks, perfectly groomed to the point you couldn’t even remember that a few days ago the stadium was a slush pond. It was amazing, the transformation. Great skiing on a variety of klister and even some teams using hard wax early in the day. The Alaskans totally dominated the day, winning every race EXCEPT for Far West taking the J2 Girls with Joanne Reid coming from behind for the win.

Mid Atlantic Reports on Classic Sprints

Wednesday, March 12th, 2008

The Mid-Atlantic team had a great day on Monday coming away with gold in the J2 boys race by Steve Mangan of Honoeye-Falls, NY in his first JO appearance. This is a big result for Mid-Atlantic, as the last individual Junior National victory for the New York team was when Lowell Bailey (now on the US Biathlon team and skied to an 11th place World Cup finish last week) won the sprint at the 2000 Junior Olympics in Jackson, NH. Carly Wynn of Queensbury, NY also had an impressive day qualifying 18th in the J2 sprints and working her way up to 6th place in the A final. We are looking forward to the east-coast conditions for the Freestyle race tomorrow.

New England Report – Classic Sprint

Wednesday, March 12th, 2008

A great race for New England yesterday, but this is a pretty tight event right now. A mere two points separate us from Alaska, and Inter-Mountain is a close third. Happily, our wax techs nailed the kick and the glide, and our athletes were on their game.

JO’s Classic Sprint

Tuesday, March 11th, 2008

We are excited to welcome all the athletes to Kincaid Park, racing on our home courses. We wish the snow conditions would have been better, but, thankfully we’ve been spared by mother nature and with lots of hard work by the organizers we had an exciting and competitive sprint race. We were impressed by the level of fitness of the other divisions, especially New England who ended the day 2 points ahead on Alaska Cup standings. Nice job! We were stoked to to have two National Champions (Amy Glen and Becca Rorabaugh and many skiers into the final rounds in all divisions.
