Making Tracks in West Yellowstone

Saturday, November 14th, 2009

After a bit of a hiatus from this site, I’m back and ready to kick off the ’09-’10 season! I’m writing from West Yellowstone, MT where the snow continues to pile up after a major storm that rolled through earlier this week. Almost all of the Rendezvous trails are open now and the race skis are on the verge of jumping out of the ski bag. When I first arrived on Wednesday with my buddy Kevin Patzoldt, who will soon leave for IBU (biathlon) world cup, there was essentially no snow—the plateau had next to nothing. Now, needless to say, the ski season has started.

All right, too much time has passed since my last post and it’s all due to my pondering the future options for this blog. So, I’ve decided to transition from a focus on my experiences in Norway to looking closer at my current training experiences, both in collegiate racing and biathlon, and the perspectives that I gain. This is not to say that I will stop drawing on my experiences in Norway, but rather discuss them with a little less concentration. All of my post and photos from “En tid for skiskyting i norge” will remain accessible through various links, and I will also welcome any questions about my experiences.

Ronny Hafsås–one of Norway’s fastest biahletes and skiers

Nå er sesongen i gang igjen…

Sunday, April 26th, 2009

In the past few weeks I’ve enjoyed some long ski trips in the mountains surrounding Lillehammer and my sunburned face is proof of it! You can find some pictures of these ski trip in my photo album. In other words the skiing isn’t quite finished yet in the Lillehammer region of Norway, but longer and longer drives are needed to find snow. Officially, the Norwegian season isn’t over until the end of April, but for some teams (including the US biathlon team) “the season is in motion again.”

Perfect crust skiing conditions

Julebord, og tid til å reise hjem…

Wednesday, December 10th, 2008

Well, I just finished packing my bags for the flight back to Minnesota. I’m definitely looking forward to catching up with friends and family, but I will miss my Norwegian friends and the perfect skiing here in Lillehammer. Yes, I agree this seems a little early to return home for the holidays, but there are some qualifying races at Mt. Itasca that could provide me with the opportunity to do some international racing this January. However, there are still many good times and quality races to be had here in Lillehammer, so it’s good to know that I’ll be returning in less than a month. While I’m home, it will be fun to share what I’ve learned here in Norway, and to compare my training with those back home.

En ny begynnelse

Friday, October 3rd, 2008

The seasons are changing here in Norway and that brings only one thing to mind: snow. Believe it or not, this weekend it’s probably going so snow here in Lillehammer, and, if that happens, it will be the earliest I’ve seen snow in the fall. As the title of this post suggests (“a new beginning”), now marks a time of change in the seasons, but also, and conveniently, marks the beginning of my blog on FasterSkier.

En kort sommer

Sunday, August 10th, 2008

Welcome to my first blog. I will be spending a full year studying abroad in Lillehammer, Norway, and hope to use this blog to communicate and share my experiences and thoughts with all those back home, wherever that home may be. As you might have noticed, the title of the blog is in Norwegian together with the title of each blog post. I thought this would be a nice touch to bring a little flavor to the blog. Please bare with me as I get things up and running.
