Birkie

Tuesday, February 24th, 2009

Okay, so I didn’t really race the Birkie this weekend.  I did race the Korte, but I figured people would be more likely to read this if they thought I was writing about the Birkie.  After all, Bjorn Daehlie did ski the Birkie.  I had a few moments last week where I seriously considered skipping the Korte and getting myself to Main Street so I could witness the Birkie finish.

Capitol Square Sprints

Sunday, February 15th, 2009

Yesterday was a big day for me.  I was pretty thrilled to be able to spectate the Capitol Square Sprints in good ol’ Madison, Wisconsin.  I am a poor skier (as in money, not ability) so I don’t have a camera.  Feel free to hop on over to David Chamberlain’s blog and check out his photos.  I think you can see me against the fence…It was pretty neat to be able to watch him, among many other great skiers, up so close.  I read about all them and study their technique so much, it was more than exciting to see it live.

Looking Ahead

This weekend was one of those times where my life of serving the Lord interferes with my ski training.  I do feel that by skiing I am also serving the Lord though, so there can be a bit of confusion at times.  This particular weekend I was chaperoning a group of high schoolers from our parish to a youth rally.  It was pretty awesome, but did take me away from skiing.  It also required that I get little sleep and eat massive amounts of junk food.  Such sacrifices I make for the kids…
