Obviously I have not been attending to my blog. I simply have had no time. But I have been up to a lot of really sweet things.Since I last wrote, the snow melted, about 4 times. But we kept having enough to ski. This resulted in some friends and I taking out the rockiest of all rock skis and doing some dumb things on skis. It was just kind of nice to be out in shorts and a t-shirt and actually be able to ski. Sure, some spots were just ice, others were grass. We did this quite a few days. Then, well, it snowed again. Five inches of wet, heavy, (did I mention heavy?) snow fell from the sky like manna. It was too warm to groom, but I did a couple skate workouts in it anyway.
Why Mo-T why? Because I was preparing for my final race of the year, the ABR spring race. I wanted to get in a few more skate workouts before this freestyle race. The race was pretty sweet. Yea, I did come in 63rd out of 70, but I was only 72% back from the winner. I know, this sounds completely disgusting and you can’t believe they let me keep a blog on fasterskier.com. Let me remind you, though, that this was after only my first full year of training. The skate races I did last year I was 111% and 105% back from the winner. So, yes, I think that’s something to be proud of. So much improvement in one year, and I got better in every skate race I did this year.
Also, it was just a super fun race to do. Have you ever skied peltonen pass out at ABR? Because that’s part of the race course and, despite the warm temperatures, I have never gone so fast on skis on the down hills. Seriously, my life flashed before my eyes. I had a couple (okay, 3) pretty sick falls. But it felt awesome to be racing in sunshine and almost 50 degrees before the race was over. Shortsleeves? Yes. I almost wore shorts, but my falls were nasty enough that I was thankful I didn’t. Another reason it was so fun was because I had my own little support team out on the course to give me an extra aid station. I felt pretty much like an elite.
Since then, it has been rest, rest, and more rest. Well, if you call teaching pre-k, waking up at 6am to receive food orders, and full days of work in the office rest. Or, if you call youth night, Mass band, a sleepover with highschoolers and a 24hr food fast rest. I also spent 5 of the last 8 nights in a bed/home that wasn’t my own. But, I have not been working out at all. I have enough minor injuries that I definitely needed to let them heal before I move on with my training.
Then yesterday, there was the huge pile of snow I spread out into a nice little loop so I could get in one more (short) ski. I felt like Tom Sawyer as I conned 2 of my roommates into helping me spread out the snow, even though there was nothing in it for them. Hahahahahaha. (that was my evil laugh).
Okay, a super busy day and week of work await me. Check back soon for pictures from all the aforementioned events and jocularity.
