Glacier Camp 2 VIDEO

Wednesday, July 27th, 2011

Sorry it has taken me a little while to get this latest video up… Mostly it had to do with Fasterskier’s servers having a catastrophic meltdown two weeks ago. Ok, so that is actually a lie. Even if the site had been functioning, I still didn’t have it done until yesterday.

But enough. Here it is. The quick and fun audio/visual summary of our July training camp at the Thomas Training Center:

Solid and Steady and Fourth

Wednesday, July 6th, 2011

The scene in Anchorage has been real sweet lately. Lots of solid and consistent training, day in and day out. There has been a really strong group of athletes that have been getting down to business every session, and the volumes, intensities, and speeds have all been gradually increasing.

We did a couple awesome mountain runs, including this 4hr run where coach Flora ran the whole way with a bottle of his prized “French water” in his hand:

I jumped in a bike race or two, one of which was this nice 20 mile xc race at Kincaid. It was a bit of a reality check, because I went out on the first lap trying to hang with the leaders… I quickly found out that no matter how in-shape you might be, riding maybe 100 miles a week is not enough to hang with the dudes that ride 500. So the wheels came off (great pun, I know) about halfway through, but it was a certainly a killer workout.

This last weekend was of course the 4th, so we did what nearly every non-interior Alaskan does and zipped down to Seward to watch Mount Marathon. I am always impressed by how gnarly some of the sections of this race are, and how fast some people huck themselves down these crazy rock crags.

Holly and Kikkan battled neck and neck the whole way, and Kikkan only won in an “Usain” sprint down main street. She probably won’t be stoked on this picture of her backside that I took of them climbing, as she leads Holly:

Eric Strabel finally put it all together won his first title. I actually got to watch him barreling down the ravine, passing Brent Knight and rocketing off the mountain:

We are heading up onto the glacier again tomorrow for another big on-snow training week. It’s going to be super fun and probably quite tiring, but that’s what it’s all about right?

I will of course be putting up some cool stuff when we get back down, so check back in a week or so!
