Stress the external kind.

Saturday, November 29th, 2008

Hi,

I don’t have any nice pictures to show this time just some words of advice.  I recently left for Europe a little then I have done in the past, so that I could adjust and make the most of WC #1 my thinking was I would have some time to decompress finish off my recovery week and then start up with the training again.

However I made the amateur mistake of worrying about training too much and it pisses me off I am 25 already when am I going to learn to be confident in the training I have logged and rest when scheduled and when needed.

Anyways I landed in Sweden after a ton of travel and felt pretty good so I started training and put the rest off to the side, I was concerned that I didn’t complete some hours in my REST week a couple days before I left which was because I was swamped trying to tie up loose ends and pack for a 5 week long tour.  Well I did get in some solid training upon but that coupled with some unexpected travel stress and poor recovery ended up wearing me down.

Fortunately I never got sick I was very tired though and may have fought something off, I took a unexpected rest day today because I was tired and there seems to be a virus going around.  So in the end did the extra training pay off?  Doesn’t look like it.

So I hope this post will serve its readers as a reminder that training is not the only thing to consider when planning a rest week or rest day.  Especially at this time of year there are so many engagements and gatherings you will have to pick and chose what you can handle for that day or week, but in the end keep and eye out and for too many stressful days in a row and cut out whatever you can, if that happens to be training then oh well your body will thank you buy waking up next week healthy and ready to go.

Until next time take care and wash those hands

Silverstar to Sweden Part 2

Tuesday, November 25th, 2008

Hi Everyone,

Since leaving Silverstar I packed quickly in 2 days ate my last dinner in Canada with my girlfriend Jodi, we choose a authentic Korean restaurant in the spirit that I would qualify for my 2nd World Championships which are being held in Korea this season.  Once in my seat on the plane I was trying to get settled in but it looked like it was going to a tough ride due to the fact the guy sitting beside me was bigger then his seat and had no problem seaping into mine, but then the door closed.  I immediately jumped up and landed in one of the many empty rows of seats,  it seemed that every other person had there own row and on my connecting plane.  Wow it as starting to look like I was going to have a great start to my tour.  After some commuting through the Swedish night I found myself in Lillhardal, Sweden at the home of Tom and Anna Carrin Olofson Zidek Before leaving for Sweden Jodi ( my GF) and I went to a Korean restaurant in the spirit that I will qualify on this tour for WCH in Korean.  During my stay I trained in a town called Sveg about 20km away.  The snow conditions were minimal with but the dedication of the volunteers from the town they managed to have a 3.3 km track which we could do shooting combo and ski intensity.  I was more then happy to see this.  I stay in Lillhardal for 4 days and had a very good time and was able to get a true experience of Scandinavia following Anna Carin around,  I acutally sat down and watched the xc cross country opener with her family and that was neat it was like watching a hockey game in Canada.  A big thank you goes out to Anna Carin and Tom for giving me this opportunity, have a great place to stay where I was able to decompress from the travel.

Next I was off to Ostersund driving through a blizzard, thanks to a borrowed Tom Tom navigation system I made it no problem I do recommend a system to anyone who travels even a little bit.

Today I woke up in Ostersund and when to training and had the best snow conditions I have seen since March last year, can’t wait to open up on the tracks.

From Silverstar to Sweden pt.1

Saturday, November 22nd, 2008

Hi Everyone,

It has been a while since my last post but that is only because I have been very busy not because of a lack of material.  Last week I left Canmore with my club team Biathlonschool.com in search of the white stuff so we could get high… I mean we had to go high to find the white stuff so too the top of Silverstar Mountain resort we went approx 1900 meters.  During the drive we didn’t really know what to expect I actually packed rollerskis and running shoes just incase.

Silverstar #1

Even when we arrived at the village it still looked dismal and our spirits still were not that high, however after a evening run it looked as thought skiing was a possibility and it was just a matter of how many kilometers.  Between the snow at the top of SilverStar and the crib we were staying in, I personally had a king bed, fireplace and jacuzzi tub not to mention the hot tub on the deck.  It was looking like I was going to have the early snow camp of my life!

Silverstar #2

The next morning started with a good ski in great early snow conditions up high, however the conditions were inconsistent throughout the week often snowing overnight and raining in the afternoon or chinook winds that punished the snow which because of the conditions had deteriorated by the end of the week to that point where I was happy to be going home besides I had to start packing for Sweden.

Even though the conditions were not great I had a great camp and accomplished the volume I wanted too as well have my first on snow combo training for the year and not to mention the many laughs with my teammates.

Silverstar #3

All it all it was a good camp and I was happy with my on snow transition.  Part 2 tomorrow if I remember my camera.

Happy Trails.
