Intro
My name is Scott Perras and I am 24 years old. I started Biathlon pretty late in my life compared to most of my competition especially considering I didn’t have either a Cross Country or Shooting background.
I started training and setting goals in Biathlon at the age of 18 which is obviously pretty late in terms of age, I in fact had I already finished one year of University. I had raced a bit at the provincial level but never really committed to training full time. I didn’t really know that their was events like WJCH and WCH to aspire to, unfortunately I think this is how the majority of the public still views amateur sports. However the opportunity of Canada Winter Games arose and I welcomed the challenge. I started training in Sept that year and when the other students went back to school I started training full time, under the guidance of my first coach Karen Fahlman who used some of the recommendations of what Bjorn Dahlie was doing at 19 years of age. The training was intense many days having double interval sessions, but I managed to survive probably due to the fact I only started training in September. However it is this rude start to training that really started my love for endurance sports and endorphins. I came away from the 2003 Canada Games with 2 medals and was now addicted to the fact that I could set goals and work hard towards them and achieve them. To this day I have no idea what type of trouble I may have got myself if I had never found a outlet for all that energy. A year later I moved to Canmore, Alberta to pursue my goal of representing Canada at the Olympics. Since moving I have raced in Europe at European Cups, World Cups and World Championships. This September at Selection trials I was reselected for the World Cup Tour before Christmas.
Wish me luck I will need it.
