It is finally here, the racing season gets underway in North America tomorrow in West Yellow. (Instead of calling it West, I like the ring of West Yellow.) Over the last few weeks the Canadian team has been split up with some of us training in Canmore and the World Cup Team racing in Northern Scandinavia. The Canmore training was a great prep for the race season. The loop at the Nordic Center was short (2.0km), but we were able to do numerous time trials and intensities. If we wanted to go longer, Lake Louise is just down the road.

Late last night, we arrived in West Yellow. I was going to write an article about what my first impressions were of this little ski town. Then, I realized, I have been here less than 24 hours and I really don’t know much about it yet. What I do know is that it has the widest Main St. and the most luxurious Holiday Inn I have ever seen. The ski conditions were great this morning, lots of skiers on the trails.  The sprint course is…interesting, point to point, no real climbs. Other than that, I still have much to discover about WY.

A local coffee shop owner found a few of us on Twitter, after we mentioned West, so we are going to check out his establishment called Morning Glory. But first, some downtime in our Holiday Inn Villa suite.

I will update in the next few days about all the racing action happening here. Looking forward to it.

Thanks for reading

Congratulations on a great sprint finish. Sounded like a strange course decision on the part of the race committee, but it looks like you picked up some good FIS points.

I am skiing at Silver Star, and the snow has been great, Things are warming up a bit, but the trails are in excellent condition. The XC ski camps start here on Friday, and then it is time for me to go to work. In the meantime, cruising these trails can’t be beat.

    Good luck this weekend. M
