Back at it in Jackson, New Hampshire for the UNH Carnival. Finally feeling somewhat normal after struggling with mono and sinus infections….
Day 1 – Classic Sprint. Crazy Weather! Icy – sleeting with some snow! Used Skate boots and Classic skis…first timing doing that combo, worked out well - Awkward at first but got it down. Had a solid Prelim. Felt strong but nothing to crazy – then worked my way through the heats and had a strong final. Played it not very smart and had to really work at the end and ended up losing to my hombre Sammy T. Good day though!

Special Thanks to The Kantack Family for having me at their house – and to Sverre for waxing some good boards this weekend!

Start this out with a dope vid from revivedfilms.com - Revived Films – Nationals. Doin’ Work.
After struggling with my health all Fall – I felt like I was finally starting to get some good energy and pop back going into Nationals in Rumford, ME!
Bridger Tyler and I decided with major lack of snowage in VT, to head up to Mtn. Sainte Ann for a mini – camp before Nationals. Good Training and restin’ – only way to get fast!
Sinus Infections and general fatigue made for a both mental and physical struggle all Fall. But just tried to stay positive and work through it.
Nationals went fairely okay for me feeling about 80% for the racing managed to pull out some solid results with:
5th in Classic Sprint
14th in Skate Sprint.
- Semi’s . Nationals – (flyingpointroad.com)
After returning home I decided to get some blood work done up. Found out I had mono this Fall and thats why I continuely was getting run down and sick.
Buzz kill…

It’s not rare to find snow in Vermont during the month of October.

Check Out: http://skylerdavis.com/ – If yah Want more updates on what I’m up to!
Huge thanks to Widsix (www.widsix.com) and Matt Maloney for making it dope!
At the end of August, I decided to head back down to Stratton, VT and live there for the fall period of my training. It’s been a great decision so far. Training with Andy. N, and the SMS team is always sweet and an opportunity I wouldn’t pass up. Besides that the foliage here is dope. The view on the mountain was awesome, but in the low lands where Andy lives it was even better.
I have headed back north since then for a few fun adventures. A couple weeks ago I was in Burlington to help out with a Fischer Ski Night at the Skirack on Main St. (http://www.skirack.com/) – Really fun time to meet and greet local ski families! The next day I was also lucky enough to be asked to help out again with local high school athletes. I get such a kick out of helping kids out and getting them pumped up about Nordic Skiing.
As I look out my window right now I’m psyched to report that it is the first snow of the season! – Meaning I’m going to keep you all posted with my blog posts a lot more consistently now. There’s only about one more month until I leave for Europe.
To compete in my first World Cup!!!!
So yah-stay tuned, I’ll be back to the blogging now that things are getting more serious, with the snow and all.
For now peace out and enjoy the snow!

Last Spring I worked with one of my key sponsor’s NENSA (New England Nordic Ski Association) to help generate funds for the upcoming 2011 – 2012 Nordic Ski season.
The campaign was a huge success, thanks to the generosity of everyone who pitched in to support my fund raising effort on the NENSA site. An impressive roster of other New England Nordic skiers joined me to generate some impressive revenue. The funds raised last year really help NENSA in their endeavor to grow the sport of Nordic Skiing in New England!
(Skiing in New Zealand this Summer with USST)
Below you will find an interview that I did with the owner of http://causevox.com/. CauseVox provided the web design horsepower for the NENSA fundraiser this past spring. Thanks to their web expertise and the efforts of my fellow NENSA athletes, the spring fundraising campaign turned out to be a great success. Huge thanks to Jeff at CauseVox!
Fundraising Page Tip: Interview with Skyler Davis
by JEFF on SEPTEMBER 11, 2011
The New England Nordic Ski Association (NENSA) just finished up their online fundraising campaign through CauseVox. In the end, they were able to raise over $50,000, beating their original goal of $25,000.
Skyler Davis, the youngest member of the US Ski Team and a supporter of NENSA, raised over $1,300 and generated more than 175 Facebook Likes through his personal fundraising page. He talks about how the success of a fundraising campaign isn’t always monetary, but also based on awareness. Skyler shares his thoughts and fundraising tips below.
Tell us a little bit about who you are.
My name is Skyler Preston Davis, I am from Jericho, Vermont. I grew up living in Chittenden County and loved playing all sports. I decided to get serious about Nordic skiing and moved down to Stratton Mountain, Vermont to attend the Stratton Mountain School (SMS). It was great to have so many positive influences at a young age to shape who I was and who I became during my time at Stratton Mountain School. My time at SMS couldn’t have been better – with all my great coaches and friends as an amazing support group.
Why did you decide to fundraise for NENSA?
I was contacted the by Executive Director of NENSA, Pat Cote, who asked me to help out with their Annual Spring Fund Raising campaign. I was honored by the request and immediately started thinking of ways to help generate funds for NENSA. Having grown up and lived my entire life in Vermont, the New England Nordic Ski Association has always been there to help me through their event and training support and athlete funding to reach my goals. I was thrilled to have the opportunity to help NENSA with their campaign.
What methods did you use to get people to come to your page?
Once I composed my page I posted it to my Twitter and Facebook accounts. On my Facebook page the link went off with great friend support. The NENSA page became very populated by people who are not in the sport of Nordic Skiing. It was simple for viewers to click “Like” on the Facebook button. This generated lots of visitors, many of them non-skiers, to check out my page. This resulted in either my friends or their parents making a donation to NENSA. Even if they didn’t donate through my page, it still helped to popularize the Annual Donation, which was the ultimate goal. After it went viral through Facebook and Twitter, I then sent out about 30 emails to my family, friends and sponsors. I had great feedback and support from the direct emails.
What has been the most difficult part of fundraising?
I actually really enjoy the process of fundraising – it gives me a chance to contact and connect with people I don’t regularly get to talk with frequently. It’s really fun making new bonds and friendships through their support.
Any tips you’d like to share with other fundraisers?
The biggest things to be successful with fundraising is to enjoy the process. Be creative and to figure out a way to make it am enjoyable process for you. If you are able to embrace the process, then it isn’t all about the income you generate during the fundraiser. Enjoy the process: Everything before and after, all the interactions and people with whom you make contact. Embracing the process is how you can achieve success and make raising funds enjoyable. It’s all about connecting with the people and friends willing to help you out and taking pleasure in the process.

WOAH! It’s been far too long without a blog post. Since my last post when I was down undah in New Zealand much has happened. Shortly before the races down in “Enn-Zed” I became ill with a virus that lasted far too long. I trained through it when I returned back to the States – and training was actually going pretty well. Then, once the intensity started to ramp up at the USST camp in Lake Placid, I felt the same symptoms I had in New Zealand coming back. My coaches and I decided it would be best to figure out what was going on, so I headed back to my home in Jericho, Vermont and met with pulmonary specialists in Burlington. After a battery of tests, they discovered that it wasn’t my lungs but my sinuses that were causing the problems. This was a relief to the doctors and me. Finally getting the right diagnosis meant that they could put me on the right meds. I’m now back to my regular training program and health wise I feel back to my old self. It’s great to be feeling well again and ready to train at full capacity.
With fall under way, there’s some great training to look forward to and some other cool projects that I’m doing in my new office in my home in Stratton. I will be posting updates soon!

Here’s a cool project that my newest sponsor, Revived Films, finished up for me recently. Big props for their efforts! They worked super hard, to film, direct, edit and produce this awesome promo compilation clip from the 2010 – 2011 season.
