April skiing in Fairbanks

April skiing in Fairbanks

Assistant coach Ingrid Olson and I skied on great snow today at Birch Hill in Fairbanks. Though a bit slow in places the snow-cover is excellent. I plan to ski on May 1 just to say that I did it. Last fall, we started skiing on the last weekend in September. Seven full months of skiing on our “good” skis. I love it!

Still Skiing

Tuesday, April 21st, 2009

I am not the type of person who keeps his digital camera at-the-ready for interesting shots for the blog, or crazy video for youtube. Yesterday, however, I was kicking myself for not having my camera. I skied at Birch Hill and the conditions were fantastic. I wish I had brought my camera so I could post a picture of the trail. I used Salomon Grip 9 classic skis (“fish-scale” kick zone) and it was perfect. And this is low altitude skiing, not sucking wind in April at 9,000 feet. I only saw one other skier; I guess everyone else is running and biking, but I would just as soon ski while we still can.
