…the race for the guys with who didn’t use zeros.

The sad state of our tent just about sums up the race for our guys today, a big gust of wind destroyed it!
You could tell from the forecast that waxing was going to be tricky today and it turned out to be a tough day for our guys, who have generally been strong in classic all season. Right until 25 minutes before the men’s race was supposed to start the temps were hovering in the upper 20’s and the kick was coming easy but a few big gusts of warm air changed everything. We got something that was kicking down low on the guys skis but the conditions out on course were varying. Just before Franz and Juergen were going to head out I got radio reports that our first guy on course had skis that were a little sticky on the highest part of the course. We went down a notch with Franz and Juergen and crossed our fingers.
As the radio reports came in it was obvious that all the top guys in the splits were on zeros. The guys battled hard with Juergen finishing 11th and first for the guys that were on the course with kick wax. Sadly they don’t have a “non-zero” class at the EISA Championships =).
Fortunately we were able to make adjustments for the women and while only one of them actually used zero’s they had much better skis then the men. Caitlin lead the way in 3rd and Jennie and Mary rounded out the scoring for a second place team finish for the women.
Tomorrow the guys will have an opportunity to battle the field on a more even playing field and the women will look to keep their momentum from today…
