This ski was just getting fast…
Catamounts were competing on either end of the country today in Junior Olympic qualifying races. In Northern Maine Newt, Pete, and Mary qualified for the heats in the Eastern Cup opener. Pete skied a good heat improving on his personal best. He drew a tough heat with three Middlebury skiers controlling the heat. He skied well but some tactical skiing by Graham Egan left him a few inches short of having a shot at the Semi-finals. In the fourth heat Newt got off to a great start hitting the first down hill in the lead, unfortunately an aggressive line and some ice left him on the ground with a ski broken almost in half! He gamely finished the heat on one of Pete’s skis.
Up north Caitlin P and Amy were getting started at the first Besh Cup weekend with another Skate sprint.
