I grew up ski racing in Anchorage, Alaska and continued racing through my years at Dartmouth College.  As a young man, I developed a real love for the sport, although my talent for training and racing was admittedly average.  I landed my first coaching job after graduation in 1993 as an assistant coach at the Stratton Mountain School where I was lucky to have the mentorship of Jim Galanes and Sverre Caldwell.  I next coached for the Sun Valley Ski Team, where I had a chance to learn from another great coach, Rick Kapala.  I began coaching for the U.S. Ski Team in 1999, working as an assistant World Cup coach, and eventually as the Development Coach.  I took a short break from the U.S. Ski Team in 2004 to start the Sun Valley Gold Team with Rick.  From 2006 to 2010 I worked as the U.S. XC Sprint Coach, and have been in my current position as Head Coach since 2010.  I have lived in the Sun Valley, Idaho area now since 2004 with my wife Svea, and daughters Eva and Anja.  When I’m not working, our family spends as much time in the mountains as possible; camping, backpacking, skiing, paddle boarding, mountain biking, and enjoying the company of good friends in an spectacular natural setting.  I’ve been incredibly lucky in my career to be surrounded by great coaches and great athletes, and had the good fortune of watching one of the best generations of US cross country skiers of all time develop and reap the benefits of their hard work.
