Reese Hanneman Blog Banner

Wow, this is bad… It has been too long since my last blog post. Its kinda funny actually, I’ve found blogging to be extremely analogous to training; it can be going so well for so long, and then all of a sudden there will be a dry spell, maybe a sickness or injury, or in this case, lack of any good material to post online.

Training has been going well for me for the most part. There were a few of those hiccups, one bad cold and then last week I crashed my mountain bike hard and rallied my shoulder pretty good.

I don’t know if any of you guys have trouble with this, but often when I have a setback like that, even if it’s fairly small, I end up making it so much worse in my head. I start thinking like “oh, I’m missing all of this training” and “I’m going to be so far behind everyone when I come back” and “this is going to mess up my season” kind of stuff. Which sounds totally silly when I sit here and write it down, but I definitely do it to myself. In the long run, I think the mandatory breaks from training often end up making little-to-no difference, as long as you recover correctly and train hard when you are ready again.

I’m just going to put up a couple pics from that last month or so, and also a short video I made of myself and Jack Novak riding the new Kincaid singletrack… which is ironically where I crashed like two days after I filmed the vid.

First some pics:

If you havent seen the video that shows you what was happening with this tomato, you should check it out here.

Part of the crew on the last glacier descent of the year…

…where the Sun Valley boys had and um… interesting… method to sliding down the steep grassy slopes; the TRASH-BAG-WHITEY-TIGHTIES-OVER-YOUR-PANTS method. They were definitely standing out stylistically:

Heres a shot from a run a week-and-a-half ago… this was kinda the first snow of the year. Theres more now, I will get some better ones soon.

.

And then, the mtb video… these new trails are s-s-sick! If you are in the Anchorage area, it is definitely worth your time to go ride them. Not too often that you find trails this smooth, with all of the roots we have up here. Pretty fun!

.

I will definitely be getting back on the blog game here, so there should be more frequent and timrely posts coming as we go through the fall and start skiing.

The snowline is coming down the mountains and is getting close to skiable, so maybe we will get to do that pretty soon!
